The apparently unthinkable has happened and Donald Trump is back. He absolutely trounced every other Republican candidate and then Harris.
From an investment strategy point of view we were neutral about whether Trump or Harris would win. We remain so - they both continue to support tariffs, big Government and high levels of borrowing. Trump will spend his borrowing on tax cuts, Harris on Government spending. Same difference. and either way capitalism will survive and thrive.
Why did Trump win? In a word? "Communication".
Like him or loathe him, he had a message and got it over. It's politics 101, but the political establishment keeps stuffing it up. Our current Government is a case in point.
The best two pieces I have read on the result are The Spectator - "Donald Trump and the rise of the deplorables" and The New Statesman - "Why Kamala Harris's gambit failed".
I recommend both to you. And also the idea of taking news and views from as wide a range a possible. Our online presence means we are spoon fed news that it believes we will agree with - the "echo chamber" - the only way out is proactively go and look elsewhere. When you arrive on somehting you disagree with, you have probably done yourself a favour!
