Robert - "Retirement wasn't so bad after all!"

Robert had waited a long time for this day. The day when he didn’t have to wake up to the shrill of an alarm and make it through a day dictated by his diary.

Robert had not counted on the fact that he would be really tired and bits of him he didn’t know existed a few short years ago, hurt!

Robert came to me despondent, challenging me to disagree that there was any point in anything anymore. Everything was too much effort and it was too late at his age to start anything new.

Together we travelled back in time (metaphorically… we’re clever at TCFP, not that clever!), we looked back and captured every sigh, every longing that was accompanied the words, ‘when I have time…’ we looked at them all, each scrawled onto it’s own little post it note and every session just chose one.

That’s it, just one … we researched it, we planned it, we set up social media accounts to discuss it with others who had similar interests; then Robert went ahead and did it – often with the new friends he had made online. Robert had found long lost energy in only ever needing to think about the best next thing each time.

The more Robert did, the less things hurt. The less things hurt, the more Robert did.

Retirement didn’t seem bad at all after that!
