Jennifer and David
The hardest part of our journey together is navigating through the loss of loved ones. At TCFP we know that these emotions are complex and nuanced.
Jennifer lost her dear husband after 43 years together. She came to us for support with the grief and huge void that had been left behind. What she hadn’t prepared for was the tremendous guilt she felt about everything David had left behind to ensure that she was comfortable after he was gone.
Guilt about spending a single penny on trips they had planned to go on together, on restaurants that he had loved and on anything that brought her joy in her moments of despair.
We explored these feelings together and delved into Jennifer’s identity both during her wonderful marriage, and now that she found herself alone.
Over time, the memories became less painful to recall and would bring a poignant smile to her face … never did her eyes dance more than when she arrived with an extortionate handbag, that David had implored her to buy for years, but she had deemed too extravagant, too boisterous, too vivacious – very much like how she described David himself.
With David in her heart and the promise of creating new memories to share with him in quiet moments of reflection, Jennifer found the peace and drive to live on for both of them.
